Honda Wins Wards Auto 10 Best Engine & Propulsion Award

WardsAuto is an automotive trade magazine that has been published since 1924. They have been most famous for their Ward’s 10 Best Engines that started in 1994. They test only new vehicles with a base price of less than $65,000. Each vehicle is tested for two months and scored based on typical, everyday driving scenarios with zero instrumented testing. Wards looks at power, torque, noise, vibration, and harshness (NVH), among other things. In 2020, due to the rise of electric vehicles, the name was changed to Wards 10 Best Engines and Propulsion Systems.

Award Winning Engine

For 2023, the Honda Two-Motor Hybrid Electric System has received the 10 Best Engine and Propulsion award. The fourth generation two-motor hybrid system is used in the all-new 2023 Honda Accord, as well as a version in the Honda CR-V, and accounts for 50% of all Accord and CR-V sales. 

Engine Production

This new 2.0-liter Atkinson-cycle inline-4 motor is made at the Anna Engine plant in Ohio and has been redesigned with two new electric motors that are larger and feature more power. Both motors are now mounted side-by-side instead of in-line like the hybrid motors in previous generations. 

All-New, All Amazing

As an all-new model for 2023, the 11th generation Honda Accord is available in six different trim levels, four with the two-motor hybrid system, including Sport, EX-L, Sport-L, and Touring. The Accord hybrid produces a combined 204 horsepower and 247 lb-ft of torque from its 2.0L motor and two-motor hybrid system. Sport, Sport-L, and Touring hybrid models have an EPA-estimated 46 mpg city and 41 mpg highway, respectively. The EX-L hybrid Accord gets 51 city and 46 highway fuel economy.

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) has awarded the 2023 Accord with their coveted Top Safety Pick+ designation, meaning that it is one of the safest vehicles on the market.
