Earning a TSP+ Rating

The Honda Accord has always been a beacon in the industry as far as safety performance is concerned, and that continues to be the case for the 2023 model year. The iconic sedan was completely redesigned for the current model year as it entered its eleventh generation since inception nearly five decades ago. This year, it is the sixth Honda model to earn at least a TOP SAFETY PICK designation, but how exactly does a vehicle achieve the highest possible rating, TSP+?

In order for a vehicle to qualify for this prestigious award, a vehicle must achieve a rating of “GOOD” in all of the crashworthiness tests that the IIHS puts it through. This includes tests like the driver-side small overlap front, the passenger-side small overlap front, the updated side test, the original moderate overlap front test and more.

As driver-assistive technologies become more and more advanced, they too are required to perform well in order to achieve high ratings from the IIHS. For TSP+ in 2023, a vehicle needs to earn either “Advanced” or “Superior” ratings in both daytime and nighttime tests for vehicle-to-pedestrian front crash prevention tech. Finally, either “ACCEPTABLE” or “GOOD” ratings for its headlights.
