Vehicle Maintenance Checks to Do in the Fall

The changing seasons always bring about noticeable differences in weather but fall in particular often serves as a warning or an appetizer of what’s to come in winter. Think of fall as a yellow traffic light before it turns red. This is a great time to prepare your vehicle for the upcoming changes while also checking in with the car as a whole to see what routine services might be needed, especially if you’ve had an adventurous summer. Take a look at our tips for vehicle maintenance checks to do in the fall.

How to Care for Your Car When Autumn Arrives

This isn’t an exhaustive list, but it’s a good starting point!

  • Pay attention to your tire pressure. The changing temperatures can cause your tire pressure to fluctuate. It’s going to start getting colder throughout the season, so you may walk to your car one morning as you head out to work and see that your tires are looking a little flat. Chances are your tires just need some more air as they get used to the new temperatures, so stop at the gas station on the way and fill them up. If they still look low, then have your mechanic or your friends at the Honda of Marysville service center take a look.
  • Check your windshield wipers. Soon enough, that rain is going to become snow, and you don’t want to be caught in a snowstorm in a couple of months with subpar windshield wiper blades. Swap them out ahead of time.
  • Check your battery. Changing temperatures can also wreak havoc on your car’s battery. Plus, you don’t want to be left stranded by a dead battery on a chilly fall morning or, worse yet, a brutal winter night. Make sure it works and all connections are tight.
  • Clean the interior. This may be more of something to do in the middle of fall as you contend with the fallen leaves – some of which likely made their way into your car! Take the time to do some decluttering and vacuuming before things get too messy.
  • Put on a coat of wax. Waxing a car doesn’t just make it sparkle; it also offers some protection against minor scratches… the kind that can happen when some leaves or twigs pinpoint your vehicle as their desired landing spot!
  • Top off necessary fluids. If you’re due for an oil change, get it done now. If not, still take a look at what may need topping off, like your washer fluid.
