What is the Best American-Made Car You Can Buy?

When you think about American-made vehicles you might think about domestic brands like Chevy or Ford. While we won’t comment on where other car brands have their vehicles manufactured, we do know that just because a brand started overseas doesn’t mean that its cars are made overseas as well. 

Why does it matter anyway? Well, it doesn’t necessarily matter, but some drivers may prefer to buy cars that have been made here in the United States as a way to support American jobs. Some people may even have a connection to those brands because they themselves or a relative have worked in a factory that makes such a vehicle. Whatever the reason is for why you might wish to buy an American-made car, the point is, there are more options to choose from than you may realize. For example, more than two-thirds of Honda vehicles sold in the U.S. are made in America. 

Therefore, finding the best option from that bunch is also probably harder than you may have initially realized. We prefer Honda models but let’s see what Cars.com has to say about it instead.

Top American-Made Honda Models

It seems Cars.com is fond of Honda’s American-made vehicles as well. The website recently published its annual American-Made Index and included a number of Honda models within its top 10 list (as well as some of Honda’s luxury brand models from Acura). The Honda models that were included among the top American-made vehicles were the Honda Passport, Honda Ridgeline and Honda Odyssey.

All of these models are produced in Lincoln, Alabama at the Honda Alabama Auto Plant, except for the transmission. The transmissions are produced separately at another plant in Tallapoosa, Georgia. 

These aren’t the only locations that play a role in Honda production though. Honda has a total of five U.S. auto plants around Ohio, Alabama and Indiana. Altogether, these plants have been responsible for producing over 30 million vehicles in the United States over the past 40 years.

So, you might think of Honda as a Japanese vehicle maker, and although Honda got its start there, it’s just as American as any other brand out there with its huge number of vehicles produced here in the United States.
