Which vehicle is the most popular with First-Time & Gen Z buyers?

Might be hard to believe for some of the older generations out there, but a ton of people from Gen Z – AKA zoomers – are not only able to drive but are of an age now to be buying cars of their own. The oldest zoomers were born in 1997, putting them ten years past the age that they could start driving at 26 years old. We were interested in finding out which vehicle was the most popular with Gen Z buyers, whether the older members of the generation or the younger first-time buyers. Fortunately, we were able to find this information thanks to the Strategic Vision New Vehicle Experience Study from 2022, and the answer is… the Honda HR-V!

Who’s buying the Honda HR-V?

Thanks to the Strategic Vision New Vehicle Experience Study last year, we have a lot of cool data that tells us who’s buying the entry-level subcompact crossover. The Honda HR-V is popular with all kinds of drivers, but it is the #1 SUV purchased by first-time and Gen Z buyers. It’s also the #1 SUV for Hispanic buyers. Finally, it has the highest percentage of millennial buyers in the subcompact SUV segment as well thanks to a third of all HR-V models being purchased by Gen Y buyers.

Why is the Honda HR-V popular?

Frugality is important to a lot of young buyers, which is likely why the most popular vehicle among these buyers is an entry-level crossover rather than larger and flashier models that increase in price along with size. Despite being an affordable entry-level vehicle, however, the HR-V is rich with content inside and out. It’s spacious regardless of its size, offers Real Time All-Wheel Drive with Intelligent Control, offers sporty handling and performance and is plenty stylish to boot. It makes an excellent choice for first-time and younger buyers.
